“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ,
the son of David, the son of Abraham.” – Mt 1:1
As I reflect upon the gospel reading today I am reminded how important is family history. Knowing where we come from is something that helps us to be grounded. For us, our immediate family history is the most important. Who were our grandparents, aunts & uncles, parents? We often want to know simple things like how did they meet? What was their favorite food, hobby, book, etc.? What was important to them?
This is why it is so important for us as families and extended families to get together. It is these gathering that we are able to remember and share the stories, the tears and laughter, the funny hats and “suspenders” and all done around a wonderful spread of food. On a personal note, our family from my mother’s side was able to gather this past summer for our 85th Annual Family Reunion. That’s right…85th annual! It is truly amazing. Here is a picture of those who were able to make the day:
May these last days of Advent help us in our preparation for the coming together of our families and, most especially, to prepare for the coming of the Lord. Amen
