Advent Reflection – Day 7

Image result for whispering in my ear

While from behind, a voice shall sound in your ears:
“This is the way; walk in it,”
when you would turn to the right or to the left.    Is 30:21

We all desire to have some help when we need to make decision.  Often times we seek it through a spouse, friends, relatives, coworkers, pastor, spiritual director, etc.  And the advice that they give to us can be helpful.  However, we still have the responsibility to make our own decisions.

In this reading from the prophet Isaiah, he alludes to the voice that comes from within.  Jesus calls this gift from God the Holy Spirit.  This inner voice (Holy Spirit) can also help us in making decisions both life changing and those we are called to make everyday.  The challenge, of course, is being able to listen to the Holy Spirit.  We do this in prayer.  Centering Prayer is a method of prayer to open ourselves up to this inner voice of the Spirit.  To find out more about this method please check out Cynthia Bourgeault in this video.

God, we thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit – Your gift of breath in our lives.  Help us to listen to that voice spoken deep within our hearts.  And give us courage to follow that voice which leads us to You.  Amen.

  1. I agree Centering prayer is powerful. In times when I need to make a tough decision it has never failed me in arrivimg at the right answer. Btw, Mr Meyette, your name reminds me of a guy named Richard Meyette whom I dated some years ago. He lives in the west coast. each time I searched his name your name comes in a similar manner. That led me to your blog. I couldn’t imagine that both of you share the same interests–. He is also active in his parish as a member of the pastoral council, he is a regular altar server, he has previously written reflections but this time A Lenten reflection. I smiled when the only difference lies in your middle names and of course age. and marital status (haha). what a namesake!! I think both of you are great men. Keep the blog going, it is very heartwarming!
