As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out,
“Son of David, have pity on us!”
When he entered the house,
the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them,
“Do you believe that I can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they said to him.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
“Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
And their eyes were opened. Mt 9:27-30a
Over the past several weeks Fr. Richard Rohr in his Daily Meditation has been reflecting upon the 12 Step Spirituality of Alcoholics Anonymous. Just before Thanksgiving he reflected on step two of the Twelve Steps – Trusting in a Higher Power. I believe this is where these two men find themselves. I suspect that they have tried everything possible – consulted those in the healing profession, religious folks, clergy, etc. and no one is able to help. They have come to the end, there is nothing more they are able to do on their own.
All that is left, is trust. Trust in a higher power, in God. And when they do…
What is there in my life that I cannot overcome on my own? What does the Lord invite me to hand over to His gentle touch?
Father, we need your help. Free us from sin and bring us to life. Support us by you power. Amen.
